ARF site and new home page

Filed under: Uncategorized, Ham Radio, Technology, Blogging — Administrator @ 10:20 pm

As you may have noticed if you arrived by way of my home page…I have a new home page! You also may have noticed a new link on that page related to the ARF (see previous post). There is a whole new sub-site dedicated to the ARF and all things related. Please take a look around at it and please let me know what you think!

I wanna get back to this…really!

Filed under: Uncategorized, Blogging — Administrator @ 6:41 pm

I’ve been posting *so* infrequently and frankly, I hate not doing it.  I need some kind of kick in the pants (metaphorically speaking) to get myself going again.  Talk about breaking one of the cardinal rules of blogging: “Post Often and Regularly” !  Yipes.

It seems that I sit down to pontificate on something profound…and I run out of steam before it’s ready to be posted.  Perhaps it’s that as I near the end of some post, I stop believing that it’s worth putting out there.  I dunno.

I’m not sure how to get things kick-started again. I’m open to suggestions (take it easy here!).  And, I’m going to start spending a few cycles coming up with material again.

WordPress 2

I’ve gotten the basic installation of WordPress 2.0.1 done.  Things will continue to change, but I’m on my way in any case…

Maybe a few bumps in the road

Filed under: Technology, Blogging — Administrator @ 3:00 pm

I will be doing my best to update the site to the latest version of WordPress. It seemingly supports quite a number of enhancements, not least of which is better support for comment spam blocking. As my previous post mentioned, I’m receiving an inordinate number of posts from the stupid folks who love to bring you things like free poker, Russion porn, real-estate, and other such unwelcome crap. With any luck, the changes will begin to slow some of that. Time will tell.

So, if things appear goofed up for a bit, hang in there. I’ll get things running soon enough!

Draconian Measures…

Filed under: Blogging — Administrator @ 3:32 pm

I’ve been getting so much comment spam lately that until I have the time and inclination, all comments will require moderation by me. I really hate to do it, but I need some better mechanisms for handling the load and I certainly don’t want crap appearing on posts that you all don’t want to see.

So for a bit anyhow, I’ll be weeding through the dross to find the good stuff. My apologies.

I’m baaaaaaaaaaaack!

I was properly chastised by my sister for not posting for the last couple of weeks. Truth told, there have been a number of factors:

1. I’ve been quite busy working on the house to get it ready for a visit from said sister and for new carpeting and some new furniture.

2. I’ve been mulling over just what direction to take this blog.

3. I’ve been watching events surrounding the Katrina disaster. Each time I feel the urge to post due to some bone-headed report I’ve just seen, I pause to let the steam die down.

4. I wonder if *anyone* (besides my family) gives 2 hoots about this blog.

Since I was on a bit of a kick to tell some stories about my youth, I was given the suggestion that maybe I should break the blog into more than one…with one focusing on tech topics while the other being more oriented toward story-telling. I just don’t know what I’ll do and so I’ll ask you, dear reader, to post your suggestions as to the direction I should take.

The right audience

Filed under: Blogging — Administrator @ 9:11 am

Perhaps I’ve got this blog listed under the wrong categories at the various registration sites. I see that there’s a fair amount of traffic to my site, but I wonder who’s actually reading and what you’re hoping to find here.

Ostensibly, this site is technical in nature, but it’s clear from my posts that we’re not limited to “tech”. That said, I’m curious as to who’s reading and what captures your attention. As an example, my previous post topic is embedded Linux. I believe that I listed the blog as a tech site that includes issues of software development, technology, telecommunications, music and recording, etc. , but so far no one has bitten on my questions. It’s my belief that Linux-lovers would by dying to help me out. But so far, I’ve gotten no response. That leads me to believe that I’m not getting a lot of Linux folk here.

How did you end up here? Are you using a service such as BlogExplosion? If so, what criteria did you put in place for the sites that would interest you?

I’d like to make this site as interesting and informative (and even occasionally entertaining) as possible. Let me know what dropped you on my doorstep and if you’d consider coming back. Think of this post as an informal survey of who reads this and what you want to read about when you arrive.
